Matched against a live state licensing database on first ingest and re-checked monthly. Expired or revoked licenses drop the provider from public search.
A specialist directory, not an ad portal.
Septic & Well Prolists septic and well water service providers across eight states. Every provider here was verified against state licensing records — we don’t accept paid placement, we don’t aggregate anonymous reviews, and we publish our data-quality fixes in public.
What our verification tiers mean
Liability insurance documentation on file. Self-reported on unclaimed listings, verified on claimed ones during the claim process.
Aggregate rating ≥ 4.5 across at least 10 named homeowner reviews from the last 24 months.
Reserved for claimed listings that clear every other tier: licensed, insured, top-rated, and the business owner has responded to at least one review in the last 12 months.
Self-reported 24/7 availability. Called out on listings so homeowners facing a real-time backup know who will pick up the phone on a Sunday night.
What we do differently
Licensing verified against state databases
Every listing is cross-checked against the relevant state licensing record — NC Onsite Water Protection, PA DEP, MI LARA, GA OWMS, SC DHEC, VA DPOR, FL DEP, TX TCEQ. Expired or revoked licenses drop the provider from public search.
Reviews with attribution, not star padding
Aggregate ratings are derived from dated, named homeowner reviews. We will not show a star rating without the written story behind it. Scraped or anonymous quotes are filtered out automatically.
Free quotes, no lead fee
Quote requests route to up to three licensed pros in your area. Pros don't pay to receive leads, so homeowners aren't padding middleman margins. Pros have 24 hours to respond or the request expires.
Data bugs flagged in public
If you see a wrong license number, fabricated county name, or a phone number that's clearly a test value, it's a mistake — not marketing copy. We publish our data-quality fixes and welcome corrections at support@septicandwell.com.
Editorial content, independently written
Cost guides, regulatory primers, and regional deep-dives are researched against public sources (HomeGuide, Angi, state DEP publications, EPA) and updated on a cadence. Sources are cited inline. Nothing is sponsored.
Conflict-of-interest stance
We don't accept paid placement, don't boost providers for ad spend, and don't partner with lead-resale networks. Our income comes from homeowner quote volume and a small banner on contractor badges.
Spot a mistake? We’d like to fix it.
Wrong license number, a phone that rings to nowhere, a placeholder county name, a provider who’s no longer in business — email corrections@septicandwell.com and we’ll fix it or delist. No login required.
